Twin Otter sales float on

Viking Air has received another order for its modernised Twin Otter 400 twin-turboprop, taking total sales above 40. The order, for delivery in 2011, is from Montenegro Charter Company, based in Podgorica, capital of the Balkan republic. It will be fitted with amphibious floats for tourist operations.


Apache UAV link kit on line

Lockheed Martin has begun fitting its new VUIT 2 system to 24 US Army Apache helicopters. The kit mounts atop the rotors to link video images from UAVs to the Apaches and then to ground units. Time spent by air units searching for specific ground targets could be cut in half, says Alan Chinoda, rotary wing and sensor systems director.


Astrium deal is spot on

Astrium has increased its shareholding to a majority 81% in French satellite imagery provider Spot Image. Spot Image is currently preparing for the launch of the Pleiades constellation in 2010, which comprises two optical satellites with 70cm resolution, and the development of a high-resolution sensor intended to prolong the lifespan of the SPOT 5 satellite beyond 2012.


ROM spells MRO for Marshalls

UK-based Marshall Aerospace and Romaero of Bucharest have signed an initial teaming agreement at the show to co-operate on maintenance and modification activities on selected airframes. No decisions have yet been taken on the type of aircraft that might be involved. Activities will be undertaken primarily in Cambridge, eastern England, and the Romanian capital.


Blight fantastic for Plextek

Plextek the Cambridge, UK-based electronics and communications design consultancy, has been awarded a UK MoD contract worth $3.5 million for the supply of its Blighter electronic-scan ground surveillance radar systems. Plextek will be working alongside lead systems integrator, Ultra Electronics SML Technologies, to deliver the radars, which begin shipping in Q4 2008.
