Cirrus Design is at Farnborough with both the SR22 and SR20 light singles. And the SR22 is being shown with the new Cirrus Perspective by Garmin all-glass, fully-integrated flight deck, developed exclusively for Cirrus SR22-G3
This offers a number of safety features for the SR22 GTS and GTS turbo, though it is not available on the SR20. The first Perspective-equipped SR22s were delivered last month.
Graham Horne, director of sales for Cirrus UK, says Perspective is designed to simplify aircraft operation, enhance situational awareness and increase flight safety. It has a three-axis autopilot as well as synthetic vision and a dual, solid-state attitude and heading reference system.
In autopilot the pitch can be tied to the airspeed, “so you can't put it into an autopilot stall”, Horne says. When in doubt due to clouds or other factors, a ‘level’ button is on hand to cancel everything and straighten out flight. A ‘go around’ button is also ready to pop up everything needed to land. Even the seats have been enlarged and enhanced, he says.
Each night Horne and his colleagues fly their own SR22 from Farnborough to Turweston, near Oxford. “It's two hours to get there by car,” he says, “but we'll get there in 15 minutes.”
