Aero Sekur (H4/B8) has extended its controlled atmosphere inflatable maintenance shelter service to provide a full system incorporating inflatable beams, ColPro and air-conditioning.

Custom designed to fit specific aircraft sections, a flexible fabric construction ensures rapid deployment, avoiding damage to the aircraft. Optimum temperature and a humidity controlled atmosphere is provided for repairs involving resins or advanced surface treatments, says the company."Our expertise has been endorsed with a significant contract to supply an inflatable maintenance enclosure to Northrop Grumman for field repairs to Lockheed Martin's Joint Strike Fighter - the F-35 Lightning II," says Aero Sekur's head of collective protection systems, Alice Hromadkova. "The infrastructure is therefore in place at Aero Sekur's main manufacturing facility south of Rome to provide inflatable maintenance shelters for the commercial and military aerospace markets. Research and development challenges that have been addressed by our team of specialist engineers included developing the inflatable beam framework to support the entire housing."

The main fabric of the housing can be produced in a variety of camouflage patterns. Vision panels can be introduced to assist in lighting the structures and provide visibility into and out of the shelter. Twin skin coverings can also be used for extreme environmental conditions to provide additional thermal insulation capabilities. To address threat of NBC contamination, shelters can also be designed with air locks and positive pressure zones, says Aero Sekur.

An air conditioning plant at the heart of the shelter provides air for both the general working environment and for temperature and humidity control in the area of the repair. Flexible ducting is used to channel the air to where it is required.
