Farnborough International has a secure future for the next two decades at least. That is the uncompromising message from the show's executives, who were quick to quash rumours circulating at Le Bourget that the long-term future of the event was in doubt.

Officials point to the fact that they have an agreement with site 'landlords' TAG that will keep the bi-annual aerospace event at its current location for many years to come.

Next year's Farnborough International may seem a long way off, but preparations are already under way to take on board comments and suggestions from attendees and exhibitors at the 2004 events to make it even more successful.

The show, to be held from 17-23 July 2006, will be the first organised by Farnborough International, a subsidiary of the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) created to run the airshow as a standalone business.

"We are an evolving show," says Amanda Stainer, director, exhibitions and events, Farnborough International, "and the beauty of the show is that we have flexibility on the site, allowing us to change as the market demands."

Exhibitor costs for both stands and chalets at the show have been fixed at 2004 levels and their allocation of tickets and entrance passes increased. The cost of exhibiting at the static display has been slashed by 50%, which the organisers hope will attract more aircraft to the show.

Additions to the programme include a flying display on the Monday morning focused on the latest aircraft in the air, and for the first time an evening opening ceremony to be held at a prestigious London venue.

Hall A will be a two-storey building for the first time, including a media centre, additional catering facilities such as the exhibitors' club restaurant and extra meeting and conference rooms.

There will also be youth-orientated events and programmes on the Friday for invited families of exhibitors and participants.

Popular fixtures from previous years such as the International Space Pavilion, the Business Aircraft Park and the Motorsport Industry Association will all return.
