Maltese authorities have identified the aircraft which crashed at Malta airport as a US-registered Fairchild Merlin IV.
The aircraft (N577MX) is listed by Flight Fleets Analyzer as being operated by CAE Aviation of Luxembourg.
CAE specialises in operations such as aerial surveillance and geophysical surveys.
The accident occurred as the aircraft took off at around 07:20 on 24 October, the airport’s operator states.
None of the five crew members on board survived.
“An investigation is currently ongoing and we are working with all the authorities to provide them with any assistance necessary,” the airport operator adds. The accident has closed the airport’s main runway 13/31.
