Spanish radar manufacturer Indra has been selected as a finalist in the competition to supply the South Korean air force with four D-band long-range radars. The company will compete with Lockheed Martin of the USA in the $80 million contest, which is now in its final bidding phase.
Indra is offering its new Lanza radar, now declared "valid for combat" after tests in Spain.
The Lanza is a 3-dimensional radar with a monopulse Mode 4 identification friend or foe system. The Spanish air force bought 10 in 1994, with deliveries due by 2002.
The contest may result in either a direct buy or licence manufacture. Indra has selected Samsung Electronics as its partner for licence production.
