Russia and South Africa are collaborating on an upgrade programme aimed at servicing regional Mikoyan MiG-21 Fishbed requirements, according to Col. Gen. Piotr Deinekin, commander in chief of the Russian air force. The upgrade programme is aimed at refitting the aircraft's cockpit with South African avionics. Deineken says that up to six African countries could get the upgrade.
