The Flight Guard countermeasures system developed by Israel Aircraft Industries' Elta subsidiary was tested in Israel last week, proving its capability to divert all types of shoulder- launched missiles. The test was performed at an Israeli air force facility. The missiles locked on to the heat emissions of the Boeing 737 testbed's engines and, say programme sources, the system "reacted 100%". Earlier this month, US and Israeli investors formed a US company to handle the certification of Flight Guard in the USA. The company has already purchased a 737 and a 757 for certification and demonstration purposes.
