Japanese start-up Galaxy Airlines has agreed to be the first Airbus freighter operator in Japan, with an initial fleet of one used and one new A300-600F.
Logistics company Sagawa Express will launch Galaxy in June 2006 with a leased A300-600 converted freighter. It has also ordered a new A300-600F from Airbus to be delivered in November 2006 and taken an option on a second new aircraft.
Galaxy is the second consecutive Japanese start-up to go with Airbus, which is struggling to retain a presence in Japan following the loss of key narrrowbody and widebody campaigns at All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines.
