GeoSim Technologies expects to receive accreditation from Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority for a fixed-wing training device in the next four months. This follows approval for its low-cost helicopter trainer last year.
The fixed-wing trainer models the Piper Cherokee, says Charles du Plessis, managing director of the Queensland-based company whose plans call for future development of twin and light jet trainers. There is considerable interest in the fixed-wing trainer, says du Plessis.
The Rotor Wing Synthetic Trainer, which is based on the Bell 206, is already in production and in service with Down Under Helicopters. The production trainer has undergone a number of modifications since it was first launched in an effort to resemble the 206 more closely, including improving the overhead panel and pedals. Further modifications are planned, including analogue instruments.
The company has also developed a trainer based on the Robinson R22 and is developing a trainer for Australian GA and kit aircraft manufacturer Jabiru.
