Goodrich (Stand A1121) has been selected by Boeing to provide laser altimeters for its X-45 Joint-Unmanned Combat Air Systems (JUCAS).

The altimeter uses an eye-safe laser to provide accurate altitude measurements. The award is thought to be worth approximately $15 million over the life of the programme.

Don Reynolds, vice-president, Goodrich Sensor Systems, says: "The X-45 JUCAS leads a new era in unmanned systems. We're pleased that our technology has been selected versus a more traditional radar altimetry system.

"The ease of integration, reduced observability and more accurate altitude information provided by our technology led Boeing to select us for this programme."

Goodrich was also selected to provide the SmartPort air data sensors for the JUCAS flight control system earlier this year.
