Goodyear has tripled production of radial aircraft tyres at its plant in Danville, Virginia over the last month thanks to a $10 million investment that added manufacturing space and a new tyre-building system. The plant produces tyres for the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320.
"This new capacity is a direct response to the growth of the radial segment of the aviation marketplace," explains Alex Dumm, general manager of global aviation products. More airlines are turning to radials because of their inherent advantages, he adds.
