Boeing has completed the first phase of requirements verification testing for global positioning system (GPS) control segment software, the first milestone in the development and integration of the GPS operational control segment (OCS). The OCS controls Boeing- and Lockheed-built GPS IIA and IIR satellites and will be used to control the new Boeing GPS IIF-M spacecraft, which will be launched in 2005. OCS comprises more than 1.4 million lines of software code. It has been converted from a mainframe-based to a distributed-architecture system to allow GPS satellite monitoring and control using enhanced displays and more automation.
