European companies Alcatel Space and Alenia Spazio, soon to be merged, have joined the Boeing team bidding to develop the US Air Force's next-generation GPS III navigation satellite system. The two firms are part of EADS Astrium-led Galileo Industries, which is developing Europe's Galileo navigation satellite system. Boeing's GPS III team includes Lockheed Martin and Raytheon units, as well as BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Harris, ITT, L-3 Communications and Rockwell Collins.
