A rocket-propelled grenade rocked a shop owned by a supporter of Guyana's leader Janet Jagan, whose presidency has been shaken by seven weeks of labour unrest. Another grenade was hurled at a newspaper office.
Police and army troops blocked main coastal roads in Georgetown, Guyana's capital, for several hours after the attacks.
The rocket smashed through metal shutters and exploded inside the store.
In recent days, strikers have formed barricades in front of stores and other businesses, forcing them to close. Extra police are patrolling the city's business districts.
