The Israeli air force is to expand operations of its contractor-supplied Grob G-120AI trainers to remove flight time from its Fouga CM170 aircraft, which are old and becoming increasingly expensive to operate. The G-120AI, which has been in Israeli service for two years as a primary trainer, is now expected to also be used as an advanced screening aircraft for cadets one year into their flying course. Plans to replace the CM170 have been frozen, meanwhile, as a result of budget constraints.
