An impending decision in the US Navy's politically charged competition to deliver the next-generation presidential transport helicopter will come several months later than scheduled (Flight International, 16-22 March). Navy officials say a four-month source selection process launched in February is not enough time to conduct a proper analysis of the competing bids for the Vertical Light Aircraft (VXX) - the Sikorsky VH-92 and the Lockheed Martin/Bell Helicopter/AgustaWestland US101. The navy has not revealed the new deadline, but noted that comparable aircraft contracts have allowed 12 months for the process.
