HeliPro International has received supplemental type certification (STC) for a Sikorsky S-76 avionics upgrade. The STC covers installation of Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 electronic flight-instrument and attitude/heading reference systems in the S-76A, with approval to extend to the B and C models "within a month or so", says the Langley, Canada-based company.

The Pro Line 4 avionics suite is available with up to five displays, with the upgrade costing from C$1-1.33 million ($750,000-1 million), says vice-president of marketing Dave Bohonis. HeliPro has completed one S-76A and will modify a second helicopter for the same customer, and is negotiating to upgrade six aircraft for another US operator.

The avionics upgrade also reduces weight by 22-32kg (50-70lb), says Bohonis.
