Capt MacFarlaine makes the mistake of assuming that Britannia Airways has actually thought through the type of cadet it wants. In fact, the list of requirements is obviously designed to reduce the number of potential applicants to a manageable number. There are literally thousands of people who have five good GCSEs, no money and desperately want to fly for a living - hence the higher requirements.Ê
Prof Parkinson, in one of his famous laws, pointed out that the perfect job advert produced a single candidate who was both qualified and willing to do the job at the price on offer. Britannia will get its six candidates who fit the advert but, like Capt MacFarlaine, I suspect they will have hired people with the higher expectations that go with the higher qualifications.
