Horizon, a BAE Systems-led consortium, has been awarded a contract to market a UK Royal Air Force training system. The deal covers ground training for maintenance engineers and other specialist non-aircrew personnel.
BAE is teamed with GKN Westland, Rolls-Royce, marketing consultancy PERA, and Bournemouth and Poole colleges.
Horizon will market courses at the Training Group Defence Agency's RAF bases as well as within Strike Command's maintenance training and movements schools.
The private-public partnership deal could net sales of £18 million ($25 million) over the first five years, £11 million of which will accrue to the RAF. Operations are expected to start in the third quarter. BAE says it believes that customers will include the general commercial sector as well as current and future RAF contractors, which have traditionally recruited from armed forces personnel.
