Two aircraft enthusiasts have begun flight tests of a prototype ultra-light flying wing, built from a design by Second World War flying-wing pioneer Professor Reimar Horten, who died in 1993. The two-seat PUL 10 had its 30min maiden flight in May from Breitscheid airÌeld in Germany, under a Provisional Certificate of Airworthiness awarded in November by the German federal-aviation office. The aircraft was built by entrepreneur Siegfried Panek and Bernhard Mattlener, who hope to bring the PUL 10 into series production. The aircraft's aerodynamics give it a 1,200km (650nm) range, say the manufacturers. The all-composite aircraft is powered by a 60kW (80hp) Rotax 912 UL piston engine driving a Neuform two-bladed propeller.
