ILA plays host this morning to an international conference on ‘going green’. High-level industry stalwarts such as Dr. Jean Botti, chief technical officer of EADS and Prof. Joachim Szodruch, board member of the DLR, will outline some of the ways in which the eco-efficiency of aviation can be improved.
BDLI’s chief executive Dietmar Schrick will be on hand to talk about the German aerospace industry’s standpoint.
Christian Scherer, executive vice president Strategy and Future Programmes will give an insight into current and future Airbus models’ green credentials. Bombardier’s director Commercial Aircraft will present the concept for the CSeries.
Boeing Global Technology’s Michael Friend will explain efforts to help protect the climate and environment. While Mitsubishi Aircraft’s Yugo Fukuhara, director Marketing will introduce the MRJ. Its ‘Green Airliner’.
Engine manufacturers will not be taking a side-step. Dr. Norbert Arndt, Rolls-Royce, Dr. Alan Epstein, Pratt & Whitney, and Dr. Jörg Henne of MTU will all discuss the various approaches that are being taken to develop a greener engine.
Taking part in an international transport and environmental policy forum, to be chaired by Ralph Beisel, ADV, will be Carl Burleson, FAA, Wolfgang Grimme, DLR, Dr. Karlheinz Haag, Lufthansa, Dr. Raphael von Heeremann, BARIG and Endrew Parker, Emirates, whose subject will be “Emission Trading and International Air Transport Politics”. The other topics for discussion are the gradual introduction of alternative energy systems such as fuel cells, measures for reducing the emissions of existing aircraft such as Lufthansa Technik’s Cyclean Engine Wash and the ecological disposal of aircraft.
In conclusion Prof Klaus Broichhausen of Bauhaus Luftfahrt will outline the possibilities that exist for improving eco-efficiency through the effective interaction of new technologies.
