Spanish company Hispasat has awarded International Launch Services (ILS) a contract to launch its Hispasat 1D communications satellite in the third quarter of 2002, using a Lockheed Martin Atlas IIAS booster. ILS launched Hispasat 1C in February, also using an Atlas IIAS. Hispasat 1D, an Alcatel Spacebus 3000 satellite, will provide communication and direct-to-home television services to Europe and the Americas. ILS says it has booked 14 satellite launch contracts so far this year.
