Ilyushin and MAPO MiG are to offer a new utility aircraft to Russia's airlines to replace the ageing Antonov An-2 biplane, which has been in service for more than 50 years.

The Il-100 is a high winged, twin turboprop, designed to carry up to 1,500kg (3,300lb) of freight over 500km (270nm), or 12 passengers across 1,000km. Powered by two 410kW (550hp) Samara NK-123 engines, the Il-100 will cruise at 200kt, twice the speed of the An-2, but with much lower operating costs.

Ilyushin is also targeting Russia's emergency medical services, border control/policing, coastal service and military markets and is hoping to clinch orders from the Russian Government.
