Russian mission controllers have postponed a spacewalk designed to allow the crew on the Mir space station to repair damage done when an unmanned cargo craft collided with its Spektr module in early July. The decision was taken following a near 24h battle to restore power after a member of the three-man crew inadvertently disabled the guidance system on 18 July. The solar panels turned away from the Sun, requiring a shut down of most electrical systems. Officially, the crew is being allowed to rest, but it is thought that the repairs could be undertaken by a new crew.
