Foreign airlines serving Tel Aviv will not be allowed to continue operating to the Israeli city unless they implement a policy of locking cockpit doors during the flight.
The Israeli transport minister Ephraim Sne says that, according to a report prepared for the ministry, some airlines - mainly from eastern Europe - are not following the security directive to keep the cockpit doors locked.
"We will not tolerate such violations on flights to Tel Aviv. An airline will get one warning and then we'll suspend the flights," Sne says. The transport ministry also receives regular reports on security measures taken in airports from which flights operate to Tel Aviv. Sne adds: "We will not accept lax security and will take the appropriate measures if we find a problem."
On 3 February new regulations on securing general aviation aircraft against unauthorised use in Israel came into effect. The transport ministry says that violations will be met with severe action against the owners.
