Jet Aviation's bid to expand its fixed-base operation at London's Biggin Hill airport cleared a final hurdle last week when the UK's high court rejected a local government appeal over a planning decision given by the country's transport minister. This clears the way for airport owner Regional Airports to build a 7,500m2 (80,000ft2) hangar and an office complex at the airport, both likely to be operated by Jet Aviation.
Approval of a second building to house flight planning, administration and a hotel is now likely.
Last year Jet Aviation built a $5 million maintenance centre at the airport, which is around 20km (12 miles) from London's central business district, but says it is "unable to confirm" it will occupy the new hangar. "We have invested a lot of money and personnel and obviously we want to build on this base in the future," says the business aviation service provider.
