The US Air Force has awarded Kaman Sciences a $9.6 million contract to support flight-mission operations involving the High Altitude Balloon Experiment. The project will help demonstrate acquisition of a tactical ballistic-missile target during the boost phase of its flight. The 33-month contract will produce two flight payloads and pay for two flight experiments. The payloads will be flown at 85,000ft (26,000m) and engage simulated targets launched from the White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.
