South African missile manufacturer Kentron has unveiled its A-Darter imaging infra-red-guided short-range air-combat missile. The design uses a tail- control approach coupled with thrust-vector control for additional agility. Wind-tunnel testing of the design has already been carried out. The airframe design is generally similar to that of the Matra BAe Advanced Short-Range Air-to-Air missile, but has four additional body-length strakes. The South African firm is considering international joint development of the new missile - full-scale development work on the project has yet to begin.
