Defence communications provider L-3 Communications is American, proud and Anglophone. But in subsidiary L-3 Military Aircraft Services (MAS) it has a team who are very happy to be here and speaking the language of Moliere and Sartre.
L-3 MAS is the US corporation’s Montreal-based military aircraft maintenance and support arm. Formerly part of Bombardier Defence Services, the company specialises in deep support of in-service Boeing F-18 Hornet combat aircraft. Current flagship projects are the modernisation of Canada’s CF-18s and the structural refurbishment of the F-18s operated by the Royal Australian Air Force.

The company also provides support for the Canadian Armed Forces’ CH-148 Cyclone maritime helicopters. The contract covers life-cycle and inventory management, training, logistics, maintenance and a real-time information system designed to maximise availability. Headquartered at Montreal’s Mirabel Airport – where it has a component repair and overhaul facility, several hangars and a stripping and painting area – MAS has more than 800 employees with expertise in engineering design and analysis, repair and installation, and full certification to both national and international standards.
