LHTEC, a joint venture between Allison Engines and AlliedSignal Engines, is supplying its T800 turbo-shaft engine for the re-engineing of Bell UH-1H Huey helicopters flown by the US Border Patrol.

The first re-engined aircraft was due to have been delivered in July. The T800 was originally developed for the Boeing/Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche.

Earlier this year, LHTEC signed a contract with Hindustan Aeronautics covering the supply of CTS800 engines for flight testing of the Indian manufacturer's Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). The 970kW CTS800 is the civil version of the T800, and may be selected to replace the Turbomeca TM333 as the ALH power-plant. AlliedSignal says that production deliveries would begin in early 1998.

Agusta's A.129 International, an upgraded version of the Rolls-Royce Gem-powered A.129 Mangusta attack helicopter, is also being offered with T800s.
