Intelsat's commercial arm, New Skies Satellites, has ordered another satellite, the NSS 7, from Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems. The NSS 7 will provide Atlantic region cover. Five Intelsat satellites already provide NSS C-band and Ku-band coverage. The sixth spacecraft (K-TV) is due for launch next year to provide Ku-band services, while the NSS 7 will provide C- and Ku-band services. It will be based on the successful Lockheed A2100 satellite bus and will be launched in 2001. Lockheed, meanwhile, is expected to take a 45% stake in the Comsat corporation.
