Lockheed Martin and Elbit Systems will jointly offer the IA-63 Pampa trainer to the Israeli air force as a replacement for its ageing Fouga Zukit (CM170 Magister) advanced trainers.
Elbit recently won a $15 million contract to supply and integrate avionics into 12 new-build IA-63 Pampas being manufactured by Lockheed Martin Argentina.
The co-operation between Lockheed Martin Argentina and Elbit would help solve the Israeli air force's trainer budget problem as Israeli sources say it would be able to use US foreign military sales funding for a deal as the manufacturer is a subsidiary of a US firm.
