US low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has ordered two Airbus A320 flight training devices (FTDs) from Canada's Atlantis Systems International. Ft Lauderdale, Florida-based Spirit has 35 A320s on order for delivery beginning in October, with options for 50 more.
The Level 4 FTDs, with both Honeywell flight management and centralised fault detection systems, will be installed in Spirit's Miramar, Florida training centre.
The airline already operates Atlantis-supplied Level 4 FTDS for the Boeing MD-82. Atlantis has previously supplied A320 FTDs to Air Canada, Alitalia, China Eastern Airlines and GE Capital Aviation Training.
CAE's Simfinity-series Airbus A320 maintenance/flight training device (M/FTD) has won Level 1 approval from the European Joint Aviation Authorities.
The device is a core component of the Airbus flightcrew training programme recently approved by the French civil aviation authority for the A320.
