Swiss maintenance provider SR Technics will assist South Africa-based Mega Aero Training Academy (MATA) to set up a technical training programme under the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's oversight.

SR Technics says that it has signed a letter of intent for a five-year partnership with MATA to establish an EASA Part 147 programme that will cover type ratings, basic and specialised training, with the use of web-based training methods.

MATA – located at Johannesburg airport – is an aviation school for engineers, cabin crew and emergency services, and currently operates under certification of the South African Civil Aviation Authority and local training bodies.

SR Technics says that the partnership will increase its presence as a training service provider in Africa.
