The ALENIAG222 as a multi-role assault aircraft can serve for:
carriage of vehicles & light artillery;
paratrooper drop;
pallet airdrop
low-altitude parachute extraction system;
ambulance;
fire-fighting;
spraying;
mine-laying;
helicopter air refueling;
electronic surveillance.
Most of these roles are supported by a modular package - for example, the fire-fighting module weighing 2,200kg allows 6,800kg, or 6,000litres, of fire-retardant to be dispersed.
Reconfiguration on turn-round is possible by the load-master alone. Times range from 6min for readiness from seats stowed to troop transport, up to 35min for conversion back to readiness for load airdrop. A 36-stretcher conversion for medical evacuation takes 44min.
