NASA and AeroVironment, makers of the solar-powered Pathfinder remotely controlled aircraft, have won one of NASA's own "ten most memorable record flights of 1995" awards for reaching the record-breaking height of 50,567ft (15,420m) during a 12h flight on 11 September 1995. The flying wing is being used to develop technologies, which are needed to produce an un-piloted aircraft able to fly at heights up to 100,000ft on environmental-sampling missions for seven days or more.
