Allegiant Air will add nine routes from Sarasota in Florida next year, and launch nonstop service between Louisville and New Orleans.

The Las Vegas-based ultra low-cost carrier plans to start year-round flights from Sarasota to Asheville, Baltimore/Washington, Cleveland, Columbus Rickenbacker, Grand Rapids, Harrisburg, Nashville, Richmond and Syracuse.

Asheville and Baltimore/Washington service will begin on 22 February, with Harrisburg and Syracuse flights to launch on 3 April. Cleveland, Columbus, and Richmond flights will start on 4 April, followed by Grand Rapids and Nashville on 5 April.

"With this addition, Allegiant will offer the most nonstop routes of any carrier to Sarasota-Bradenton International airport," says Allegiant vice-president of planning and revenue Drew Wels. "These new routes will allow passengers to have even more options for convenient and affordable travel to world-class destinations."

Separately, Allegiant will launch nonstop flights between Louisville and New Orleans from 28 February.

All routes will operate twice weekly, says Allegiant.

It will face direct competition on only one Sarasota route, FlightGlobal schedules data show. Frontier Airlines flies from Sarasota to Cleveland. American Airlines offers nonstop service from Sarasota to Washington National.
