Greek carrier Ellinair has started flights to Cologne from its Thessaloniki base.

The German airport's operator says Ellinair launched the route on 8 April and will operate it thrice weekly with Airbus A319s.

This is one of a number of new German routes that Ellinair will operate during the summer 2017 schedule.

The airline's website indicates that it intends to serve Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart from Thessaloniki. A second route to Munich, as well as a service to Berlin Tegel, will be operated from Heraklion.

FlightGlobal schedules data shows the airline's other international services comprise routes to Ukrainian capital Kiev and to Russian cities Mineralnye Vody, Moscow, Rostov-on-Dov and St Petersburg.

Ellinair is part of Greek tourism group Mouzenidis. Its fleet includes two A319s and two BAE Systems Avro RJ85 regional jets, Flight Fleet Analyzer indicates.
