The nose gear of a newly delivered China Air Lines (CAL) Boeing 747-400F was undergoing maintenance at Taipei's Chiang Kai Shek airport, Taiwan, on 7 February when it collapsed, pitching the aircraft on to its nose. CAL used an airbag to raise the nose and the aircraft (B18709) then fell on its tail. The tail stand, which was not attached, punctured a horizontal stabiliser and ruptured its integral fuel tank. An initial estimate of the repair cost is at least $3 million.
