New Piper Aircraft has become the latest business aircraft manufacturer to slash production in the face of a slowing US economy. The Vero Beach, Florida-based light aircraft builder plans to cut output from 538 aircraft last year to 489 in 2001, although its has yet to identify which types will be affected. New Piper's decision, which is unlikely to lead to job losses it says, follows hot on the heals of rivals Cessna and Raytheon which have slowed production of their respective 172 Skyhawk, 182 Skylane, King Air and BeechJet 400A lines.
