The new-generation Python 4 air-to-air missile, arguably the most advanced weapon of its kind, makes its European debut at the Paris air show.
Made by Rafael, this close-combat infra-red homing missile is already in use with the Israeli Air Force.
Features include a high performance seeker, digital signal processing, computerised flight control system, aerodynamic design, active laser proximity fuse and high penetration fragmentation warhead.
Pursuit
Advancements of this model include improved pursuit trajectories due to super-manoeuvrability, wide off-boresight capability, tracking rate and a shaped long-burning thrust profile.
In developing the Python 4, Rafael made breakthroughs in three major areas: seeker, airframe and rocket motor.
A company spokesman says: "This weapon changes the nature of air combat.
"Its advanced features ensure that it can achieve absolute advantage even in the fiercest dogfight."
