Ryanair has struck a new deal with the Walloon regional government in Belgium that it hopes will satisfy the European Commission's concerns over state aid. The Commission ruled earlier this year that the deal struck between the two parties in 2001 included illegal subsidies. The new arrangement will see passenger tax reduced to €1 ($1.19) per passenger to replace the €14 fee offered to all airlines and the €7 discount fee offered to Ryanair. Brussels has indicated it will take a close look at the deal.
