Loss maker - Spanish flag carrier Iberia terminated its unprofitable service to Tokyo from December, and has now severed all links with the Asian market. Happy EVA after - EVA Air began a new codeshare arrangement with America West at the end of November on flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Las Vegas and Phoenix. Qantas returns - Qantas has launched its first service to Latin America in 24 years, with flights from Sydney to Buenos Aires. Flights are on a codeshare basis with Qantas and Aerolineas Argentinas each operating twice a week via Auckland. Into Africa - South African Airways (SAA) has introduced its first flights to Nigeria with two return services a week. SAA also added a third weekly flight to Angola in November. Pakistan routes - Gulf Air was to add to its 18 weekly Karachi services, by launching new direct flights to Peshawar in mid December and services to Lahore and Islamabad on 1 January. The flights bring its total weekly services to Pakistan to 27. Remote access - Jet Airways was due to launch scheduled services to Port Blair, in the remote Andaman islands in January. Flights will be operated daily from Chennai, formerly Madras, the carrier's hub on the east coast of India, using Boeing 737s.
