The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) has unveiled a 3D film promoting its C919 narrowbody jet at Asian Aerospace. The eight-minute movie, open to visitors at Comac's stand, gives viewers a glimpse into what the aircraft will look like.
Comac was initially expected to show its life-size cabin mock-up, which made its debut at Airshow China in Zhuhai last November. But the mock-up is now being displayed at a Beijing convention showcasing scientific advancements in China.
The 3D film by Comac includes artists' impressions of the aircraft interior, from the cockpit area to the passenger cabin and lavatories to the galleys. It also gives a quick snapshot of some of the major suppliers on the aircraft, as well as the aircraft specifications.
Comac has won orders for up to 100 C919s, which it announced at last November's Airshow China. The orders were made by China's top four carriers Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Hainan Airlines as well as lessors CDB Leasing Company and GECAS. Artists' impressions of the aircraft in its launch order customers' liveries are seen in the 3D film.
The C919 is scheduled to have its first flight in 2014, followed by entry into service in 2016. The aircraft can seat 158 in a mixed-class configuration or 168 in an all-economy class configuration.
Besides the 3D film, Comac is showcasing a model of the C919 at its stand at Asian Aerospace. It also has on display three models of the ARJ21 regional jet - a passenger, business jet and freighter version - which it hopes to deliver to its launch operator by the end of the year.
