Aer Lingus names new chief executive

Irish flag-carrier Aer Lingus has named its strategy planning head, Stephen Kavanagh, as its new chief executive.

He will succeed Christoph Mueller who is to step down from the helm of the airline at the end of February, the Dublin-based carrier states.

Kavanagh joined Aer Lingus in 1988, occupying a number of operational and commercial roles, before becoming chief commercial officer and, subsequently, chief strategy and planning officer.

He will take over as the head of the airline at a crucial point in its development, with British Airways and Iberia parent IAG having proposed to acquire Aer Lingus.
