Aeroflot shareholders have approved the Russian flag-carrier's plans to lease 50 Irkut MC-21-300s.

The airline says the twinjets are to be delivered from the first quarter of 2020 to the third quarter of 2026, with an option to prolong the delivery period.

Shareholders approved the transaction at the company's annual general meeting on 25 June, says Aeroflot.

It is to take the aircraft through a leasing arrangement with state corporation Rostec's Aviakapital-Servis division.

At least half of the 50 jets will be fitted with the Pratt & Whitney PW1400G powerplant.
