Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) is planning to build a new composite repair facility in Paris.
The maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider wants to centralise its present composite repair shops, which are spread over different locations around the company's facility in Le Bourget.
The site used to be the engineering base of former French carrier Union de Transports Aériens (UTA), which became part of Air France Group in 1990.
Describing the facilities as "very old", AFI president Franck Terner says they will be replaced by a greenfield composite repair centre. He says this should improve efficiency "dramatically" and halve turnaround times for component repairs.
It is not yet clear where the new shop will be constructed, however. It could be built "somewhere around Le Bourget" or alternatively at AFI's base at Charles de Gaulle airport, Terner says, with a final decision due by year-end.
