Russian design house Agat has unveiled an active radar seeker suitable for long-range air-to-air and medium-range surface-to-air missiles up to 350mm (14in) in diameter.

To date Agat has only shown seekers for missiles up to 200mm like the RVV-AE (R-77). The new seeker, referred to as "object 9B-1103M (diameter 350)", is 330mm long without a radome and weighs 13kg (28lb). The unit consists of an antenna co-ordinator, transmitter, monopulse receiver and a digital computing system which incorporates a programmable signal processor capable of 100 million short operations per second.

Agat general director Iosiph Akopyan says the acquisition range against a 5m² (54ft²) fighter-sized target is at least 40km (21nm). Akopyan says a prototype of the seeker is being tested.

The unit could be installed in a follow-on to the Vympel R-37 or Novator KS-172 long-range missiles as well as be available for retrofit into surface-to-air missiles using semi-active or radio command guidance, such as the Buk, Kub, S-75 or S-125.
