Middle Eastern budget carrier Air Arabia is to open services to the African state of Eritrea, with a link to the capital Asmara.

Air Arabia will operate to Asmara from its base at Sharjah.

The airline, which has a fleet of Airbus A320-family jets, says it will operate the route weekly from 10 December.

Chief executive Adel Ali says Eritrea is "on the path to becoming an important market" for the United Arab Emirates.
